Local knowledge

Local housing stock & what it needs

Housing in Wakefield is mostly Victorian terraces with lath and plaster ceilings, and woodwork painted over enough times to have lost its shape. That decides the prep, and prep is most of the job. There are Georgian and early Victorian town houses in the mix too. Parts of the area are in the Wakefield Town Centre Conservation Area. That can limit what you do to a frontage, so it is worth checking before settling on an exterior colour.

Wakefield is at the edge of our area. We take work there, usually full rooms or whole properties rather than small jobs. We also cover Sandal, Horbury and Ossett.

FAQs

Questions we get asked a lot

  • Do you cover Wakefield?

Yes. We work across WF1, WF2 and the wider Wakefield district area. If your postcode is not listed, ring anyway — the boundaries are not exact.
  • The woodwork has been painted over for decades. Does it need stripping?

Not always, but usually further back than people expect. Skirtings, rails and bannisters lose their shape under enough coats, and a fresh coat over that just records the lumps. We will say which bits are worth stripping and which can be rubbed down.
  • How do you quote?

We look at the job, then send a written quote. No charge for either, and the price does not move unless you change the work. Call or message 07784 175179.
