Unlike Hebden Bridge, a lot of Mytholmroyd sits on the valley floor: mill terraces, later infill, and converted industrial buildings rather than cottages cut into a slope. Solid stone, mixed plaster histories, and ground-floor rooms that have to cope with a damp valley climate. Up Cragg Vale and towards Midgley the houses climb again, with the same weather and access issues as the rest of the upper valley. We pick the paint and plaster system for the wall in front of us, including where older plaster has had a hard time with damp.
Mytholmroyd is a five-minute trip from our Hebden Bridge base. We are in the village most weeks, so a site visit is straightforward to fit in.
