Older Elland is stone: terraces climbing away from the river, cottages that have had a century of different plaster repairs, and ground-floor rooms near the Calder and the canal that deal with a damp valley climate. Up the hill towards Greetland, Stainland, and Holywell Green the houses open out into inter-war and post-war semis, and the newer estates are mostly plasterboard and modern finishes. Each one needs a different prep and paint approach, and we pick it for the wall in front of us rather than using one system everywhere.
Elland is a short run from Halifax and still well inside our regular patch from Hebden Bridge. Site visits fit easily on the same working day as jobs in Halifax, Brighouse, or Huddersfield.
