Local knowledge

Local housing stock & what it needs

Housing in Holmfirth is mostly stone terraces with solid walls, where damp shows on the inside face and old lime plaster often sits under a newer skim. That decides the prep, and prep is most of the job. There are weavers' cottages with deep window reveals in the mix too. Parts of the area are in the Holmfirth Conservation Area. That can limit what you do to a frontage, so it is worth checking before settling on an exterior colour.

We cover Holmfirth regularly. A site visit takes arranging around jobs already running. We also cover Honley, Meltham and Netherton.

FAQs

Questions we get asked a lot

  • Do you cover Holmfirth?

Yes. We work across HD9 and the wider Kirklees area. If your postcode is not listed, ring anyway — the boundaries are not exact.

  • Our walls are solid stone and the plaster is patchy. Can that be made good?

Usually, yes. Solid stone walls behave differently from a modern cavity: damp shows on the inside face, and old lime plaster under a newer skim tends to let go. We would look at it before quoting and say whether it needs patching, a full re-skim, or the cause dealing with first.

  • How do you quote?

We look at the job, then send a written quote. No charge for either, and the price does not move unless you change the work. Call or message 07784 175179.
